If you like to travel with your family and are thinking about which car to choose, in the 5 and 7-seater family cars you will find an ideal option that will satisfy you with its habitability, comfort and extensive modularity, with a large trunk where you can transport all the luggage you want, no matter if you are going on vacation, picking up the children from school or are moving. And this without losing an iota of elegance, combining safety and technology with a modern design that will delight the youngest members of the house.
Over time, family cars have received a multitude of names depending on linguistic use and geographical area: station wagon, urban estate or SW (Station Wagon) are just some of them. In other contexts the term Combi is also used, which refers to a combination vehicle; that is, a hybrid between a passenger and cargo vehicle, such as the Peugeot Traveler Combi. In these vehicles the rear seats can be removed, added or folded down to increase cargo capacity. And of course the SUVs. This new fashion segment is ideal for families of 5 or 7 passengers. Its robustness, safety and countless space and modularity possibilities multiply your options.
And although in recent months Peugeot has launched electric and hybrid engines of various models that, in some cases, have also coincided with the launch of thermal engines, as is the case of the 208 and its electric namesake e-208, or the 2008 and its electric version e-2008; and in other cases they have completed the range, such as the 3008 Hybrid, the 508 Hybrid or the 508 SW Hybrid. A virtue that unites all these models is that the volume of their respective trunks does not vary depending on the engine chosen, so aspects of electric and hybrid vehicles such as batteries do not affect their capacity in liters. In this way, you can calculate very accurately the number of suitcases that can fit in each of these mentioned models without distinguishing between their motorization, something very practical in seasons with long vacation periods such as summer.
In this sense, a new 208 or e-208 has a trunk volume of up to 311 liters, so taking into account that a cabin suitcase has between 40 and 48 liters of capacity, the total number of suitcases that can fit in a trunk of this model is 7 or 8. If we fold down the rear seats, this capacity increases to 10 suitcases (406 liters). If we take the new 2008 or e-2008 as a reference, the trunk increases to 405 liters, that is, about 9 or 10 cabin suitcases, while with the rear seats folded down the number of suitcases would rise to 36.
Entering the largest models in the range, the number of cabin suitcases skyrockets. In the Peugeot 3008 or 3008 Hybrid, the trunk that we can find has a volume of 520 liters, which in itself gives a capacity of up to approximately 13 suitcases, but if we fold down the rear seats, the volume increases to 1482 liters, that is, about 37 suitcases.
And the jewel in the crown is the 508 (and even more so its SW version), which in both its thermal and hybrid engines has a trunk of 487 liters (530 liters in the SW version), and with the seats folded down this grows to 1,537 liters (1,780 liters in SW), which represents a capacity of approximately 38 suitcases (44 in the case of the SW version).
Of course, all this depends on the shape of each cabin suitcase, how they fit inside the trunk, whether they are slightly larger than the standard 40 liters and whether they carry other types of items such as umbrellas, seats, etc., but what is certain is that with any of the latest Peugeotes models it is very difficult to run out of space...at least in the trunk.
