When to start searching for your child's future preschool 2026

During my 15 years of experience I have observed that the vast majority of parents are unaware of all the economic benefits available to families who choose to take their children to preschool.

This is because many of these grants are published between March and April, months in which many mothers have not yet given birth, so the search for a future nursery school is not their priority at those times.

As is the case of Marta, a mother who came to visit our El Mundo de Mozart nursery school; Her baby is born in July and as a first-time mother, she does not know how the admission process works at the different educational centers for the first stage of childhood.

Throughout it he tells me that he has also requested information on how to get a place in a public nursery school; where they explained to her that in order to register, her child must be born before completing the registration process at the public center. Given the situation, Marta has decided to study the different options to enroll her son in a daycare.

But Marta's case is not the only one, every day I interview families who find themselves in the same circumstances. For this reason, I consider it important to explain when it is convenient to start the search as well as the existing tax deductions and reliefs for paying for preschool.

First of all, although it may seem hasty, my recommendation is that if you are pregnant, from the 5th/6th month onwards, you begin to arrange visits to the public and private nursery schools in your area of residence or work, to inform you when they open their admission period, since it is a procedure that is carried out in advance of the final enrollment date. It is possible that if it is not done within this period, the opportunity to obtain some public aid for the schooling of children between 0 and 3 years old will be lost.

Aid for paying for daycare

These can be several depending on the autonomous community in which you reside. For example, in the community of Madrid there is the: “SCHOOL CHECK SCHOLARSHIPS 0-3 YEARS”, and in Valencia: “CHILDREN'S BONUS”.

Other state aid such as:

- MATERNITY DEDUCTION FOR WORKING MOTHERS (MODEL 140)Up to 1,200 euros per year per child under 3 years of age.

- MATERNITY DEDUCTION FOR EXPENSES IN EDUCATIONAL CENTERS (Form 233).

Is it possible to access a private nursery school with the aid that exists?

Yes, as long as the application and the necessary documentation are submitted within the deadline established by the public institutions.

My last piece of advice for all those families who are going to need to take their child to nursery school: apply for a place for your child as soon as possible, and, of course, make the most of all the aid and tax advantages that exist for the schooling of children from 0 to 3 years old.

“The success in maximizing family savings and getting a good education for your children is to carry out tax planning for nursery school expenses,” says Denise Zarruk Vargas, Director of the El Mundo de Mozart nursery school.
