Two American women, with apparently nothing in common, have just come together to promote a campaign in which they ask for paid maternity leave in the United States, because in the American country women do not even have two weeks to be with their babies.
Amber Scorah and Ali Dodd were “forced” to leave their two-week-old babies in day care centers so as not to lose their jobs or their medical coverage. The result was that both died while they were in the care of other people; when they went to take care of them, the children had stopped breathing.
Their petition explains that only 13% of U.S. companies have a contractual paid maternity leave plan, a tiny number. "Most babies don't die in daycare, of course. But our instinct is that both Karl and Shepard (the babies who died) would have had more care if they had been with us," Scorah explained, adding that "the U.S. has the highest infant mortality rate among developed countries."
Although they both know that these are exceptional cases, they know and explain in their statement that this surely would not have happened if they had been able to take care of their children for longer. To demand from the government a national law that includes paid maternity leave, they have collected some 150,000 signatures that they have delivered to the campaign headquarters of Hillary Cliton and Donald Trump.
Although they were received personally at the Democratic candidate's headquarters and indicated that their request was “a priority,” this was not the case at Donald Trump's. “They told us that they did not have time to serve us,” they explained. “If Trump really wants to make America great again, he better prioritize children and families.”
This is not the first “encounter” that the Republican has had with a mother, a few weeks ago he expelled a mother and her baby from a rally because he wouldn't stop crying.
