It is important to plan the trip with the baby and know what we are going to have at the destination so as not to fill the car with unnecessary objects. It is very useful to make a list of the things you will need both during the trip and at the destination. What things are basic and really essential when we go on vacation with the baby? We give you some tips:
What the baby will need at the destination:
The night: if you still use a carrycot, you can sleep in it. If not, it is usually very useful to bring a travel cot. Folded it does not take up much space (before buying it, make sure it fits in the trunk) and, in addition, at night it can be placed near our bed. If you do not have one, the baby can always sleep on a mattress at ground level, protected by cushions in case he moves a lot and ends up falling.
The object of comfort: do not leave his teddy bear, the blanket, that towel that he always carries with him at home... If it normally calms him down and helps him fall asleep, much more so in a strange place. Its smell and texture will remind you of your room and you will feel confident.
The walk: the stroller or seat is essential when we travel away from home with the baby, even if it takes up a lot of space and we are tempted to leave it at home. The baby carrier is also a good accessory, especially if we plan to take long walks, walk or hike.
Baby clothes: it is not necessary to fill the suitcase with clothes, but you do have to anticipate that the baby can often get stained with milk, food, poop, so the ideal is to bring some extra changes to be prepared in case of an accident, but without exaggerating. A pair of indoor and outdoor changes would be worth it (if you need more, they can be washed), a pair of pajamas, a blanket...How many clothes do we bring? We will decide this based on two things: the days we will be traveling and the age of our baby. Calculating one change for each day, one extra for each day we are traveling from one place to another and one more for half of the days we go. If we go for many days and we will have the opportunity to wash this amount of baby clothes, it may decrease.
Toilet: a good idea is to bring an inflatable bathtub, it doesn't take up space and can be used anywhere. The folding changing table is another essential, as well as a few diapers (the rest can be bought at the destination), wipes, gel, cream... If we do not have an inflatable pool, you can also buy a plastic basin at the destination.
Complementary feeding: If it is necessary to prepare porridge, you can choose to take a children's food processor, which are usually practical and small. If you cannot bring him prepared food, you can buy baby food at the supermarket or a pharmacy.
baby car luggage
In addition to what we carry in the trunk, when traveling with a baby it is advisable to carry certain things in hand luggage, always nearby, because we may need them at any time:
Important extras when traveling with a baby:
- Do not mix the child's things with the rest of the family. A separate suitcase helps us easily find what we need.
- Don't forget to bring the baby's medical documentation in case an unforeseen event occurs: Social Security card and insurance card, if we have one.
- A small first aid kit for the trip: antipyretics and children's analgesics, thermometer, plasters, soapy antiseptic...
- Before leaving home, think carefully about what products you can buy at your destination: you don't have to carry everything from home.
