Why do you want to be small again? 2026

As naturally as we accept that children progress at an astonishing speed and learn new things every day, we must accept that from time to time they need to take a step back to take a breath. This way we will understand better why Miguel, who was one of those who already wanted to go everywhere alone, suddenly doesn't want to separate from mom. Or that Luisa, who already spent a lot of time playing alone, now chases her mother around the house when she feels that she is leaving.

He wants to be small again

He was already sleeping straight through and now he wakes up again several times a night. There can be multiple causes, but it is usually solved with a little more attention and returning to that ritual at bedtime (singing a song, telling a story...) that he likes so much and calms him down. If he wakes up at night, you have to go, calm him down without lights or parties and let him continue sleeping there, even if the thing happens several times. And be very careful with taking him to his parents' bed: it easily creates a habit.

Talk like a baby again

It happens a lot in children who have had a little brother and it is a way of being like him. It usually doesn't last long, but it is advisable that we dedicate some special and exclusive moments to the "dethroned prince", that we make him see the advantages and privileges of being the older brother and that we show him that he is also very important.

He pees again

These setbacks in sphincter control are common, the causes can be multiple, and they must be treated without impatience, as frequent and normal incidents, which is what they really are. Let's remember that up to three and four years old, there are still quite a few children who still cannot control their nighttime pee.

Ask for the pacifier again

If we flatly deny it, there is a risk that he will resort to thumb sucking, which would be more dangerous for his teeth. Let's be tolerant, especially at bedtime, let's remove him little by little and never when he is going through a delicate moment (new brother, illness...).
