Why do you throw everything on the ground? 2026

He has done it a thousand times, but even so you continue to "fall" every time he asks you to with urgency, with joy, with those little eyes to which you cannot deny anything. He asks for the remote control and as soon as he has it in his hand he drops it to the floor from his high chair. At first he looked out with great interest, but now he often stares at your face. As a small sociologist, he is interested in the reaction that the command against the ground produces in you: do you laugh, raise your finger or does your face turn red?

Throwing things on the ground is nothing more than one of your little autodidact's first physics classes. Physics, sociology and skill. What things do you learn every time you throw away the spoon you have in your hands?

Measure distances

By ear: When thunder follows lightning, the storm is near. However, if it takes a long time to ring, the storm is far away. In the same way, everything that falls to the ground takes time to ring, in general, the distance that separates it from the ground. Children learn to calculate distances by ear. I throw it, I hope, it rings. I throw it, I wait, it rings. And so every time we let him.

With their eyes: At first they follow the object with enormous interest and see it become smaller as it reaches the ground. Sounds. Information collected?: a time, a sound and a size. Your mind, without realizing it, begins to perform complex equations.

Check how the object reacts

Do I throw it and it smashes to the ground with a "chop" like mush? Does it bounce like the ball – "plon, plon, plon" – or does it move a little like the stroller? Does he get down quickly, like the controller, or does he linger along the way like the piece of paper in his hand?

Discover the cause-effect relationship

The phrase "if I throw it, it breaks" is only valid for a limited number of cases, other times objects suffer other effects. The more variants our son discovers, the more he wonders about each possibility: what happens to the cup if it falls to the ground?

Also check the cause-effect of things on mom and dad's faces. What is the reaction in each experiment? Here our little sociologist establishes his conclusions when the pattern repeats itself more or less. You are training your new ability to perceive the emotional states of others. And although we may not believe it, children of this age are very interested in knowing us deeply and seeing us happy.

It tests us

Can or can't you continue investigating? Are their advances valued or censored? Do you have three attempts? Can you experiment with certain objects and not with others? With nothing? Whatever your decision, keep in mind that children learn from an early age that gravity exists. It would be a shame to prohibit them from making such a discovery...
