Going to work or to the birth of your child? 2026

Life is a path full of decisions to make. Taking risks, not doing them, successes, mistakes... In short, none of us are exempt from it. And following this brief (and philosophical) introduction is the story of a family from New Hampshire (United States) that has gone viral almost without meaning to.

Lindsay and Lamar are parents of four children, and when she went into labor with the latter, Lamar had to make a crucial decision: go to work or accompany his wife to the birth of their new baby. He did not want to leave her alone at a time like this and decided to miss his work commitment as a security guard at Salerno Protective Services. It must be remembered that in the United States the right of paternity is not recognized.

Lamar had already been absent the day before to attend the final pregnancy checkup. Even so, he wanted to call his boss again to explain that his wife was in labor and that he had to be absent. What he did not count on was that the birth of the child would be delayed even one more day. He no longer had permission to be absent and his boss denied him leave. However, Lamar remained unwavering in his decision: he would be by his wife's side during childbirth.

And so it was. The child was born without any problems and the couple was filled with happiness for the fourth time. However, something clouded the happy moment. A message from Lamar's boss informing him of his dismissal. There was little or nothing he could do given that the law in the US is clear on the matter. That's when the figure of something less than the 'savior' of the family, Sara Persechino, appeared. This anonymous person became involved in the case to the point of creating a solidarity campaign that circulated on social networks.

The result was totally unexpected: 12,000 euros raised and a shower of job offers for a Lamar who had been unemployed since he decided to make the most difficult, but at the same time rewarding, decision of his life.
