3 books that help you overcome your fear of the dark 2026

That monsters act at night, and that when they do it is not good at all, is one of the most established beliefs of the little ones. In part, because horror and ghost stories have always had a wonderful ally in the darkness. That's why it's not uncommon for children to associate darkness with danger. Just as a very loud noise or the mention of a monster can put them on alert: any of those things, added to their enormous imagination, can make them feel terrified.

How to act

Talking to him to put an end to his false myths and beliefs is always good. We can explain to him that all those bad characters that live in stories never leave there, and that the night is just another part of the day that comes when the sun goes to sleep. But we can also make him feel safe in his environment: a good idea is to sit next to him in bed when it's time to sleep and tell him a story while we caress his forehead and eyebrows, which will relax him. If he asks that we leave the light on, we can use a pilot light or a small bedside lamp to reassure him so that he can get up at night if necessary. In addition, we can start playing games with him in the dark such as blind man's hen or shadow puppets with which he begins to lose his fear of the night.

There is a monster in the dark

It is a book intended for all those boys and girls who cannot sleep with the lights off because of that evil and terrifying monster that stalks them every night in the dark.

The author says that she was taking a Neurolinguistic Programming course when she discovered this exercise: "Coincidentally, my 5-year-old nephew at that time suffered from an inexplicable fear of the dark, since he had never had it before, and I decided to demonstrate its effectiveness by practicing it with him. The results were quick and surprising, so I decided to share it in the form of a story with all the children who suffered from this horrible fear and thus make that damn monster that scares them so much disappear once and for all. How? Very simple, using one of the best magic potions I have discovered recently: emotions."
