We feel useless, suffocated, with the sensation of not arriving, of not living, of doing it wrong...
Don't we live in a world full of facilities? Before there were no computers, no cars, no remote controls or all those things that supposedly make our lives easier and save us time and/or money.
The problems in the past were different, yes. But there was not that incessant multitasking tension that we live with now to achieve everything, do everything and also do it well. Above all, because there were not so many instruments to make the difficulty easier for us.
You just have to review the number of wonders that solve life every day from the moment we wake up until, bored (and bored) with so much free time thanks to these things, (and this is irony, yes) we fall asleep at night:
- When we wake up in the morning, we find an indiscreet scale that tells us out loud! the weight we have gained after the famine of the sophisticated diet of oligolipids, magnesium and omega3 that we are following.
- We have soy products, exotic nuts, or non-GMO and 100% organic ingredients for breakfast with which it is impossible to cook anything. Since we want to eat a healthy diet, we grow our own tomatoes and not even that! The worst of all is that on top of that we feel guilty for throwing away pre-cooked and frozen products, in theory what is “convenient” is what is unhealthy. Ains…!
- To comfortably take our baby to daycare, we struggled with an 18-meter-long carrying scarf that requires an instruction manual. Yes, it is delicious to carry the child close to your body... But for some of us it is an impossible challenge to tie a sailor's knot with a living being inside.
- We arrive, with our tongues hanging out (we're late, of course) at the subway ticket office or to pay for parking, it doesn't matter the result is the same and the ticket agent is missing. Once again to fight with the automatic payment payment. You insert the bill, the machine spits it out. You iron it, put it on one side, on the other... and the intelligent machine is still determined to spit out the bill again and again. Meanwhile… the subway has gone, of course.
- We carve out lunch time to organize the month's budget with a spreadsheet that hangs when you need it most and you write down your children's pediatrician appointments, birthdays, and tutoring at the end with a computer program that is supposed to solve an awful lot! and in the end, it ends up becoming a headache. It is not very intuitive or you have to enter so much data that in the end you are left without eating. It is clear that to gain time, you have to lose as much.
- Since “we have plenty of time”, they give us the option of permanently monitoring our little ones through the webcam in the store. The temptation is delicious, but it can be addictive. I know of someone who ended up working overtime at work because she spent hours watching her little one…
- By the way, while we're at it... there are even machines and applications that say... why does a baby cry? Traditional ones, lamps with moving lights, stuffed animals with built-in dim lights, bedding made of natural fibers that promote rest, breathing therapies and meditation... An endless number of things that if we decide to put into practice, they will keep us very awake. Is it that we don't have enough throughout the day?
Life is not comfortable. It never has been and never will be. But everything invented so that we work less will give us work. It is an unwritten law. It is the theory of easy language, an invention aimed at facilitating something (you don't have to be a grammatical lynx to grasp the meaning) that generally makes it difficult for us. On the packaging they pompously advertise the blessed invention, but when pulling (especially the first time) we usually end up with the washer in our hand. Under this same theory, everything seems to work.
What should we do?
Assume responsibilities knowing the time and effort it will take us. My personal advice is to distrust any complicated technicality and that it brings us more work. Maybe we have to focus our efforts on setting up something simple, useful and that doesn't waste our time. How about putting a hammock at home?
5 things that no one has invented and that would come in handy
- Motorized and intelligent beds for traveling snuggled up with our children.
- Device for painting the nails on the right hand on the right hand and on the left hand on the left hand.
- Pacifier caller for when we don't know where it is (How much time and suffering would we save?)
- Recordings for the tummies of pregnant women with social theories, mathematics, literature, history... aimed at increasing the wisdom of mother and child.
- The sleeping sheet: a pleasant wrapper whose touch, smell, hearing and sight encourage us (and our loved ones) to a peaceful and restorative sleep.
