When you have twins, the needs of the newborn, which are not few, are multiplied by two: two feedings, two baths, two changes, two crying babies... Parents who have already gone through this experience tell us some tricks.
Synchronize schedules
The midwife taught us to “synchronize” the twins in all possible areas and it has been the key to organizing our family life. After a month, when both were already breastfeeding well, we approximated their schedules until they were breastfeeding together, then we began to introduce solids at the same time and later we did the same with meals, games, baths... We try to get them to follow the same routine and we have been lucky because it doesn't bother them.

They are not clones
If one twin is much more nervous than the other, don't insist on them falling asleep at the same time. I did it and then I had a hard time regulating the girl's sleep. The pediatrician explained to me that each baby has their own biological clock and although it is useful for us to do things at the same time, it is not always possible and we should not force them. You have to be patient. If we respect their needs, everything will be better in the long run.

You have to write everything down
With so much fuss at home and accumulated fatigue, it is very difficult to remember what you have done with each baby. To avoid overlooking anything, I keep an agenda with the tastes and customs of each child. Very useful to inform the pediatrician about the behavior of the little ones.
Carol, mother of twins twice, ages 5 and 1
I wrote in a table with two columns what each child took at all times, naps, poops and diaper changes. This way it is easier to get an idea of how each baby evolves. And by the way, several people (the father, the babysitter, etc.) can also take care of them without the need for many explanations.

Create a safe environment
In the place where you spend the most time during the day, create a space where you can leave one of them without worrying while you dedicate yourself to the other. It can be a crib or a playpen with wheels (what matters is that it is safe).
Susana, mother of a boy and a girl of one and a half years
We go to our grandparents' house very often and, logically, we didn't have hammocks there to leave the children when they were babies. My mother made two emergency playpens with two large basins (the kind for hanging clothes) that she filled with cushions.
Victor
I always change my twins' diapers on a blanket on the floor. This way I can attend to the second girl in an emergency without endangering the safety of the little one I am changing at that moment.

Bathrooms: one at a time
Have everything you think you may need prepared so that you never lose sight of any of the children when they are on the changing table or in the bathtub.
Victor
To be able to clean the little ones without the help of another person, I place an inflatable bathtub on the bathroom floor. While one is enjoying his bath, the other is sitting next to him in his hammock, watching his little brother.
carol
From the sixth month onwards, plastic bath seats that are fixed to the bathtub and prevent the baby from slipping under the water are very practical. This way I can calmly dry one of the babies, while the other stays splashing around in the water for a little while longer, without any risk.
