Homemade anti-stretch mark avocado oil: how to make it and how to use it 2026

There are many physical changes that a pregnant woman must face not only throughout pregnancy, but even once the baby is born (and not only in the period known as the postpartum period).

For example, due to the action of different pregnancy hormones and the increase in volume caused by weight gain and the baby's own growth and development, it is common for the skin to become more flaccid, and for some clear and obvious signs to appear, such as stretch marks.

Stretch marks are so common during pregnancy that it is estimated that between 60 to 90 percent of all pregnant women end up suffering from them, although it is true that their intensity and extent will depend on different more or less known factors.

In fact, it tends to be quite common for them to form in areas where a greater amount of fat is stored, which occurs especially in areas such as the abdomen, breasts, buttocks, upper arms and thighs.

And they appear mainly depending on both the type of skin and its elasticity. During pregnancy, the body produces a series of typical hormones that act to soften the ligaments of the pelvis, making them more flexible when the baby is born.

Although this is extremely positive at the time of childbirth, it has a notable side effect: it also softens the different fibers of the skin, so they end up becoming more prone to the appearance of stretch marks.

And what are stretch marks? They are basically marks of torn skin; specifically scars, which arise when excessive stretching of the skin causes the breakdown of collagen and elastin fibers, so important for providing shape, texture and elasticity to the skin.

But hormones do not only influence in this sense. What's more, both the size of the baby and weight gain can greatly influence it. And what few pregnant women know is that the risk also increases after childbirth, when weight is lost during the postpartum period, so that, if it happens very quickly, it is also possible that they arise.

Luckily, following a certain skin care routine for pregnant women can be very interesting, since, although it is true that sometimes stretch marks cannot be completely avoided, it is useful, at least, to try to do everything possible to prevent them from appearing; or, at least manage to keep the skin properly hydrated and moisturized in order to reduce its extension and appearance.

Avocado oil, for example, can become an option that is as interesting as it is excellent, since it provides a series of unique qualities that are quite useful in this regard.

What is avocado oil?

Avocado oil consists of an oil of vegetable origin that is made and extracted from the fresh pulp of this wonderful and nutritious fruit, which is characterized by having up to 25 percent fat.

In fact, it contains more than 50 percent monounsaturated fat, making it, from a culinary point of view, an oil less prone to oxidation.

In addition to its use in cooking, due to its mild flavor and texture, it has managed to become an interesting option when applied to the skin, thanks above all to its moisturizing benefits, so it is common to find it in the composition of many products designed for skin care, as well as many cosmetics.

In the case of avocado oil designed for application on the skin, it is common for it to be refined and bleached, having a pale yellow color.

What are the benefits of avocado oil for stretch marks during pregnancy?

Thanks to its nutritional richness, avocado oil applied to the skin can help keep it more flexible, while promoting better elasticity, in a completely natural way.

For example, this oil contains a number of essential vitamins for both healing and repairing the skin, such as vitamins A, D and E. In addition, it is also packed with omega-3 fatty acids, useful for stimulating the renewal of damaged skin cells and combating aging.

Not in vain, a study found that avocado oil was particularly interesting when it came to increasing collagen metabolism, just as thanks to its high nutrient content, it also helped hydrate the skin and protect it from harmful ultraviolet rays.

Therefore, it could be of some use in keeping the skin adequately hydrated and moisturized. And there is nothing better to prevent the formation of stretch marks than well-hydrated skin.
