The child will have much more fun if he experiments with different materials and techniques when using finger paints. Of course, at two years old they are tiny and always need adult supervision. Crafts and painting will guarantee you a good time of family games and fun and will help your child develop their creativity.
Before starting our work of art
Remember to put an apron on the child (you can make one from a community garbage bag), clothes that can get stained, and to protect the floor and the surface on which you are going to paint with oilcloth or similar.
If you can paint directly on the ground, on top of plastic, rubber or community garbage bags, even better.
The finger paint of a lifetime
If you are going to use finger paint in the traditional way, to paint with your hands, it has to be thick. Place the paint on a tray or in a plastic container, such as a tupperware, and give him a few sheets of thick paper to give free rein to his imagination. You can make a beautiful painting with the prints of their hands and, why not?, of their feet.
With a toothbrush
A toothbrush soaked in paint is perfect for spray painting. You can use objects you have at home as templates (some keys, an empty matchbox, a fork...), use things you pick up on the street (a leaf from a tree, a piece of wood...) or cut out your own templates on the cardboard of an empty cereal box. They are placed on a large piece of cardboard and, after dipping the toothbrush in paint, you run your finger over the bristles to spray the color. We can use several colors if we have more than one toothbrush or rinse the brush well with water between colors. Afterwards, we must carefully remove the mold that we have used.
Finger painting without touching the paint
These two techniques allow the child's creativity to develop by playing with paints and colors, but without staining so much.
Drip Paint: Add water to the hand paint to dilute it and drip some into the center of the paper. If the child grabs the paper by the edges, the paint will move from one side of the sheet to the other and stain the paper. When that paint has dried a little, pour in paint of a different color to repeat the process.
Painting with a straw: Several slightly watered spots of paint are poured onto the paper. The idea is to take a soda straw and blow on it to extend it. Spectacular results are achieved! Watch the child while he paints to prevent him from inhaling the paint.
Bring back the game time of a lifetime!
A book of the ed. Youth to recover the spirit of imaginative play. There are more than 150 activities designed to help develop your children's creativity and skills, without any screen in sight and on a tight budget. The children will have a good time and will also learn notions of science. A book for parents and educators caring for babies and older children: each project indicates what ages the activity is recommended for and what ingredients it contains, for children who are allergic or intolerant (categories: gluten-free/corn-free/dye-free/nut-free/egg-free/soy-free or safe for babies who still put things in their mouth).
