The child is sick. It seems easy to take care of him, but sometimes doubts arise. Some immovable principles have changed and the way our parents took care of us is not always the most appropriate. Our circumstances have also changed; We do not live like our parents and doubts arise. Does he need us at his side? Should we insist that he eat, let him drink whatever he wants, give him a soft diet or is he indifferent? What to do with the fever? Do you recover sooner if you spend the illness in bed, or is it better to move around?
When not to go to school?
Especially when both parents work, sometimes it is not easy to choose to leave the child at home. However, there are symptoms that we cannot ignore. The criteria when deciding whether or not the child should go to school are these:
Do I take the day off?
The sick have a special need for pampering and affection. They feel bad and need us to transmit security to them. They will feel more protected if they have us by their side and, whenever we can, this is what we should do. If this is not possible, it is important to leave them with a person who will take care of them and give them that extra bit of affection and security. And when we return home, we must dedicate all our attention and time to them.
How much do I cover you?
If you have a fever, it is better to wear a little less clothing to lose heat in a room at room temperature. If you do not have a fever, you can wear whatever clothes you want. The room temperature should not be raised because the child is sick; In fact, it is advisable to air it several times throughout the day, and it is better for it to be cool than overloaded. Cotton clothing, which allows better breathability, is preferable to synthetic clothing: he will feel cleaner.
Should I bathe him or wait for him to get well?
There is no contraindication for not giving a bath during illness. Quite the opposite: it helps you feel cleaner and more relaxed at the end of the day. If you are too weak to bathe, we can wash it in parts each day: it will refresh and soothe you.
Better in bed? Can you go outside?
It used to be thought that a child in bed would recover better. However, recent studies have shown that immobility harms children. It's not about spending the day running from one place to another, but it is about moving based on what your body asks of you. Are you very down and don't want to get out of bed? You have to respect it. But when he shows signs of wanting to go to the living room with the rest of the family, it's okay to let him.
Regarding whether or not to go outside, common sense will guide us. If he is already in the recovery phase, does not have a fever and it is a nice day, we can go out with him for a short walk, covering him appropriately (neither too much nor too little).
