You were waiting for them and they are getting closer, you can almost touch them with your fingers, you have thought of all the details, you are going to the beach, to the other side of the world, to the countryside or on a boat trip. Summer vacations are practically a reality and you can't stop thinking about them... Let them arrive now!
As a responsible human that you are, you have surely also thought about your dog and either he will also accompany you on those days off or you will leave him safely at someone you know's house or in a hotel for dogs. However, there are also heartless people who find their pet in the way when they go on vacation: they are bothered by having to take care of the dog, take it with them or find a place where the animal can stay comfortably until they return. As a consequence of this, the shelters experience an increase in the number of animals they receive. Others are cruelly abandoned to their fate on highways, gas stations, streets...
According to the 2018 Abandonment and Adoption Study prepared by the Affinity Foundation, the second quarter of the year (which includes summer) was when the most abandonments of dogs and cats occurred in our country. The number of cats was higher than that of dogs (43% of kittens compared to 35% of dogs) and coincides with their breeding season.
In our neighboring country, pets do not have much better luck and in France it is estimated that 100,000 dogs and cats are abandoned every summer. Alarmed by the situation, illustrator Nicolas Amiard has launched Summer Adventures, a campaign against the abandonment of dogs in which cartoons and, more specifically, dog pets seek to raise awareness against this inhumane practice.
Summer Adventures is made up of 10 illustrations in which the Simpsons abandon Santa's Little Helper, Charlie Brown abandons Snoopy, Shaggy abandons Scooby-Doo and Lucky Luke abandons Rantanplan. The idea struck a chord, taking us back to our earliest childhood, the one in which we enjoyed these cartoons and comic stars. In addition, each illustration includes a sarcastic phrase, one of those that makes you think. A great idea that sadly is still necessary today.
Santa's Little Helper
This would be the second abandonment of Santa's Little Helper. Previously, the brown greyhound was abandoned by its owner for not winning races at the Springfield dog track. Bart and Homer found him and gave him a new home.
Ideafix
It is impossible for Obélix to abandon his faithful companion Ideafix. This white miniature schnauzer is super bonded to his enormous owner and is the apple of the incorruptible Gaul's eye.
Snoopy
Seeing how your favorite human takes the suitcase and literally leaves you stranded, this is what Snoopy experiences in this illustration, in which Charlie Brown leaves him tied to a stick.
Snowy
The white fox terrier Snowy is Tintin's inseparable colleague and is always ready to rescue his owner using his courage and ingenuity.
Scooby-Doo
Can you imagine Shaggy going on vacation in the van without the faithful Scooby-Doo? Don't even think about it!
Rantanplan
Rantanplan isn't very smart but he would follow Lucky Luke to the end of the world. Could there be a more selfless attitude than yours?
Pluto
Could Mickey Mouse go on vacation, leaving faithful Pluto in the lurch?
Pikachu
Pikachu is not a dog but he is Ash Ketchum's pet. Could I not choose you to spend the summer vacation?
dug
The friendly Dug doesn't deserve to be left stranded by Carl and Russell this summer. Nor any!
Bill
How cruel it would be to abandon Bill to his fate while the whole family goes on vacation.
