A few months ago, the production company Illumination Entertainment anticipated that 2020 would be a great year for the Minions: they would release the third installment of the saga. Although they did not give many details, there were many of us who speculated about its synopsis: we all believed that it would revolve around the origin of Gru, the favorite villain of many children.
And we were right! After much suspicion, the production company made the trailer public at the last Super Bowl gala. Indeed, the film 'Minions: The Origin of Gru' will go back to the youth of this character.
Return to the origin
Focused on the 70s, it will tell the story of young Gru and his evil plans to join the group of villains 'The Wild Six'. To design a perfect plan, you will have the help of your inseparable army: the Minions, who are once again the protagonists (just as they were in 2015). In fact, this film starts as a 'spin-off' of the previous one. Thus, everyone together will try to create a lair, experiment with weapons and complete missions. In addition, the film hides a novelty: we can enjoy a new yellow character! His name is Otto, he wears braces and he will play a leading role in the new film. After losing a precious treasure for the group of The Wild Six, Gru will have to manage to find it before someone notices.
There is already a release date
Another piece of information that the production company has revealed and that, without a doubt, is juicy for many, is the release date. July 10 is the day chosen so that everyone can enjoy their new adventures.
They have also taken advantage of the Super Bowl show to preview some of the original voices that we can see in the film: Taraji P. Henson will be Belle Bottom, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jean Clawed, Lucy Lawless will be Nunchuck... In addition, it will present Russell Brand as Doctor Nefario, Michelle Yeoh as Master Chow and Julie Andrews as Gru's mother. A very important fact if we take into account that the voices of the Minions are one of the things that most characterizes this saga.
The success of the Minions
When Cinco Paul created the Minions ten years ago, he surely did not expect the success they have enjoyed since then. And since 'Despicable Me' was released, the production company has raised more than three billion dollars in collections. One billion of them achieved since 2015, the year in which the short yellows premiered with a movie in which they were the absolute protagonists.
Without a doubt, the best tenth anniversary that the creators could give you is this one. We are looking forward to the premiere day!
