Free time can be spent in many ways when it is abundant, which is what happens in the summer with the agenda of the little ones in the house, free of all commitments. Another thing is who supervises them and where, but they are on vacation. Outdoor sports with the bicycle as the main protagonist; the pool; some electronic devices; and, why not, home activities to discover new things. You can do many things but there is one that is especially fun: learning science through simple experiments that do not generate any danger.
The protagonist: water
With water as the protagonist, a large number of home tests can be put into practice. We already told you about one of them, the result of which children who are discovering colors - around four years old - really like: it consists of creating a small circuit of tubes made with kitchen paper from two transparent glass glasses filled with water and food coloring of a different primary color in each to a third empty glass in which water from both containers joins. It is ideal for discovering primary and secondary colors and at the same time the capillarity of water.
But there are many more with water as the protagonist: you can learn what atmospheric pressure consists of, for example, by turning over a glass filled to the top with water and covered by a letter. Put a container underneath in case the experiment ends up being a failure when the little ones do it... The same container is used to play with dyes of different colors on a milk base, and with a cotton swab lightly dipped in dish soap, touch the dye that you have previously mixed on the milk. You will see the amazing effect it produces!
Two more ideas that we find very fun to discover science at home are, on the one hand, digging in the ice as if the little ones were paleontologists. Freeze some of their favorite dolls inside a good block of ice, or even several of them if the block is large, and then, with tools that are not dangerous for them, dig into the frozen water. Another, also with ice, is to make an ice tower in the second, something that is done using an ice base arranged on a plate on which cold, non-frozen liquid water is poured, which is as demineralized as possible. It is very curious for children to see how a good part of it freezes in the second.
For the little ones
Remember, saving the distance, the experiment of making instant snow with baking soda, which we already told you step by step in a previous text. Also very fun are the homemade volcanoes made with plasticine that erupt thanks to the chemical reaction of vinegar with baking soda, and the homemade lava lamps, the result of which leaves young and old alike speechless.
The truth is that YouTube is the great ally of home science, because all the experiments with step-by-step explanations that can be found on it are almost endless. You just have to dive a little through it to discover the selection that we have recommended in these lines and many more that will make the little ones have a great time learning science. Of course, never, no matter how simple the experiment may seem, let them do it without adult supervision at all times.
