The GoFundMe campaign for George Floyd's daughter. All information 2026

At the beginning of this month of June, the family of George Floyd, who died on May 25, 2020 as a result of police action in Minnesota (United States), and who managed to stir the consciences of the majority of Americans given that, since then, hundreds of thousands of people have mobilized every day in the country (and in the following days it caused riots in the streets and the burning of a police station), created a GoFundMe with the intention of benefiting Gianna, from 6 years old, daughter of Floyd and whom we recently saw in a video that went viral, in which the girl shouted “Dad changed the world!”

Since then, the donation page, which can be visited from here, managed to surpass the 1 million dollar mark in a single day, thanks to more than 35,000 people donating different amounts to reach this figure.

As the description reads, "due to the tragic murder of her father as a result of police brutality, Gianna will now spend her life without her father. (...) In addition, her family has lost their provider, and will undoubtedly suffer financial difficulties after this tragic loss."

While many private fundraisers also appeared through GoFundMe with the aim of benefiting Gianna, the truth is that the donation page created by Tiffany Lee is the only official one for the family. In fact, to date more than 2,173,970 dollars have been raised, exceeding by 173,970 dollars the goal set of 2 million dollars (1,783,940 euros at the exchange rate).

And, as indicated in the description, the family is actively working with GoFundMe with the intention of removing the rest of the unofficial pages, fearing that they may have been created by people who are really just trying to take advantage of the situation. What's more, it is clearly specified that all donated money will be placed in a trust for Gianna and her mother.

Not in vain, on June 6, the description was officially updated to include a message of gratitude from Roxie Washington, Gianna Floyd's mother: "Thank you very much for the outpouring of love and support. We understand that people want to send cards, photos or any gift for my daughter. We appreciate it." Precisely due to the large number of messages that have been received, and the 62,300 donations made so far, the creation of a foundation under the name The George and Gianna Floyd Foundation was reported.

PK Subban, a well-known hockey star in the United States, who is also engaged to former Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn, announced that she had donated $50,000 to Gianna's GoFundMe, an amount that was officially matched by the NHL.

During a recent interview with Good Morning America, Gianna briefly mentioned what her hopes were for the future: "I know what I want to be when I grow up. A doctor. So I can help people."

The truth is that this Gianna and Roxie Washington page is joined by another official donation page also created by George Floyd's family with the intention of covering funeral and burial expenses, psychological counseling, accommodation and travel for all legal proceedings that may occur. The goal was set at $1,500,000, and to date, more than $14 million has been raised.

Gianna's father, George Floyd, was murdered on May 25 when former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin put his knee on his neck for more than eight minutes while he was being arrested. Since then, protests for an end to racial violence and police brutality itself have erupted across the country.

While Chauvin was previously charged with third-degree murder, he was officially upgraded to second-degree murder after a second forensic report - issued by a specialist hired directly by the Floyd family - ruled that death was primarily due to injuries to his neck, as they prevented him from breathing normally.
