I know my life has changed drastically recently, and you may be angry with me for abandoning you. It's been many years since I wrote to you!
You see, I was getting older, I believed that story that kings are the parents, and now that I am a mother, no one has brought me the crown, nor have I completed any preparatory studies, nor have I received any notification of my reign. So, with some shame for having stopped believing in you, I return to your generous presence to write you my letter. Now that I am a mother, no one has brought me the crown... so with some shame, for having stopped believing, I return to you
This year I would like... some of those little things inaccessible to a mother like me. Surely you, who are magicians, can get them!
This year I have behaved - so, in general terms - quite well.
Maybe the previous ones not so much. I went out on a rampage, I was rebellious, I hurt who I wanted to (and also who I didn't, but that doesn't count, right?) and I went off the deep end with several issues. Of course, who hasn't happened to it?
I know that you, infinitely understanding and generous, will understand these slips and other more dodgy ones... My mother says that the devil knows more about being old than being a devil, from which I deduce that you three, as immortal monarchs that you are, have seen everything. And I'm sure you even understand it. I am truly sorry for all that. Well, not about having ruined my sister's outfit the day I stole it from her. Looking at the photos from then, I realize it was horrible! What I intend, in any case, is to resume this epistolary and somewhat interested relationship between you and me. So I'm about to ask you a few things, so that you can gauge which ones I deserve and decide on the matter. There they go:
1.Do you remember when I asked you for a pink plastic makeup set? Well, this year I want something similar but without glitter and from top brands.
I have realized that I wear little and bad makeup. The problem is that since I had my baby I have been leaving aside certain things that I now want to return to, and I don't think a smoky shadow, one of those miraculous mascaras, and a flattering lipstick are a treat. Right now it is a necessity to return to superficial concerns! It's for my own mental health! I know you will understand, majesties.
2. I don't know how to ask you for this: you see, I need square meters. I tend to accumulate things, and by not living alone, the objects multiply. I find myself unable to do without anything, or to throw away something that is not mine.
And you already know what it's like to have a baby, you've been seeing it for centuries. In the Middle Ages there may not have been humidifiers, travel cribs or blanket pajamas; but surely the houses were also filled with junk. Asking you for a house would be too much, so let's see how you manage to gain some space in mine...
3. I also want a suitable trousseau for my baby. Clothes for each season, with hats, shoes, swimwear, caps... everything. It doesn't last at all!
I see that famous women carry their children like paintbrushes, and they also celebrate those baby showers where they give them everything. In Spain this does not happen, and I would love to be able to take some photos with my baby together, and not the usual dirty and worn bodysuit. Sometimes, I have the feeling that I would be a disaster as a celebrity and I would like to change it, honestly.
4. I also want smooth, soft skin. I don't know which method will be the most appropriate: a peeling in a spa; a very expensive cream of virgin pearl extract and golden grains; or a three and a half hour massage... In any case, it is something inaccessible to me, and surely nonsense to you. I have neglected my skin and I want to recover the tone and smoothness of yesteryear.
Well, now being honest...
All of these things would be great for me but, to be honest, I can do without them without a problem. In fact, I have lived without them until today!
They are summarized in time, space and attention for me, which is something that comes in handy, but that I know I will have again in some time. I just need my baby to grow a little, organize my schedule and manage my finances... I know it will come.
But what I want to ask of you in an inexcusable way is to maintain the illusion that I am now resuming with you.
I want to abandon myself, return to naivety, create projects, not judge or be judged, laugh, make an effort, forget about daily miseries, raise my neck, look out and contemplate a world full of possibilities.
Motherhood has changed my perspective on life, suddenly I have started a family, and my world has been completely turned upside down.
Of course it is wonderful, but no one told me how hard it would be, how much I would grow, how much it would overwhelm me... It has been a turbulent second adolescence that has devastated my brain and if I have decided to write to you it is because I need the strength to face what I have been delaying all my life and it is called maturity.
I want to ask you for patience! This motherhood thing has nothing to do with what advertising shows us, Hollywood has not taught us what happens to a couple after having a baby, and no one has explained to me what I have to do in life!
I'm adapting quite well, but I need extra help: I need to believe that someone is watching out for me, that I deserve encouragement and attention, that my baby has the best mother in the world. And only you can do this, who are kings and you are magicians.
I don't care about makeup or having amazing skin. What I want is to be an example for my son, to give him back what I can of everything he gives me and teaches me, to show him the way, to melt when he hugs me, to see how he grows and laughs, to enjoy his childhood and to be a little girl myself.
In exchange, I promise to tell him about you, teach him to ask for a lot of dreams from you every year, write beautiful letters with drawings and explanations and, when the time comes, tell him that little white lie that you don't exist, that we are the parents.
Life asks us to mature, but if it has a head, I know it will return to you as I am returning today, after realizing that what is really important is to have enthusiasm. And I know that you are going to bring me a lot.
