As parents we try a thousand times to get our children organized, but do we achieve it? How do you educate a minor so that when he or she grows up he or she will be an orderly person? Vacation time, like the one we now have ahead of us, is wonderful for setting goals and working on them daily, without school schedules, rushing, etc. To teach a minor to be orderly, the sooner we start the better. But above all, we must be clear that we should not stop working on this aspect until we are past adolescence. The process is not short, but insistence and tenacity end up giving results. Below I leave you some tips to ensure that our children are organized.
1-A place for everything and everything in its place
Sorting things is easier if we give each object a suitable place. - When they are toys, it is advisable to have them organized in boxes or containers, or on shelves by theme: books, puzzles, cars, dolls... - When it is clothes, it is convenient to have drawers or shelves designated for each type of clothing: socks, pajamas, underwear... - When it is homework or school supplies: pay special attention since order in this aspect will help you get better grades: you will not lose homework, you will have clean notes. ordered. Use folders with dividers, colored notebooks, pencil cases for colors, another for markers. Label the folders, dividers, shelves or drawers. It will serve as a guide so you know where things go. What you order must also be in good condition: sharpen your pencils, for example, do not store them unsharpened. Or don't put away worn or wrinkled clothes.
2-Give an example
As parents, it is much easier to educate if we do so by example. This leads us, sometimes, to make a change in ourselves. Start with your children seeing that everything is organized and above all: letting them see you organize! Not just their things: organize the kitchen with them, the living room, the bathroom closet, the pantry.
The order must be: logical, simple and comfortable
Make the order to suit them, that is, make it easy for them: teach them to organize by colors, sizes, families of objects... and in appropriate places, where the little ones reach by height.
less is more
In this case we will apply this phrase to order: fewer things, more order. In the end it is impossible to order if we cannot place the objects properly and we have to end up piling them up, therefore: throw away and it will be easier for you to organize, but if the objects are your child's, reach an agreement with him/her. You have to see that everything cannot be saved if we want it to be easy and quick to organize.
Without respite
Tidy up his room or closet and show him how you do it, how it should look when it's finished tidying up. Teach him to organize perfectly, your child will lower the bar as he reaches adolescence. Be demanding of yourself so that your child is demanding of himself. When you have seen how it is done, it is time for me to help you. Help him and correct his mistakes if he does not do it as you have taught him. As he reaches adolescence, it is normal for this habit to be lost, his brain and body are in perpetual "tiredness." You will see that everything reaches the floor and from there it is difficult to move on! Don't worry, he will like having his things organized again if you have taught him well. But when you are going through this period, do not despair or give up, a good phrase is to tell them that if they do not pick up their things, you will do it your way. The teenager likes to have his things touched, he will pick it up, if he doesn't do it and you tidy it up, he will be uncomfortable not finding something that he likes or interests and he will see that it is more practical for him to tidy it up.
Order with your things
Something fundamental will be his toys at first, later his study table and bedroom, without leaving a closet and bathroom. Do not allow him to have them disordered, if he gets used to having it organized when he sees it disordered it will bother him, if he gets used to seeing it disordered, the disorder will not bother him.
Other practical tips
1º DO NOT try to tidy up in a hurry, you will end up in a bad mood. 2º WARN about the consequences of not having order: "If you don't have things organized, you may not find a toy you want, I won't be able to help you look for it and you won't be able to play with it." 3º Ask him to have his homework folder or school things in good condition, organized and clean. They have to sit down with time to order and organize. 4º ASK AND HELP: it is difficult for them to give it 10 like you do, so you will have to help them at the beginning. He will get used to seeing it the way you leave it. 5º DON'T FAIL. In adolescence they regress, it is normal, nothing happens, follow the process of HELP AND ASK, and you will be surprised by the results. Take advantage of the summer holidays. It's a great moment!
