High temperatures make us dehydrate more easily, which translates into a greater concentration of urine and this in turn leads to a greater proliferation of bacteria. Be careful, these are not the only causes.

Some types of containment contraceptives and resisting the urge to go to the bathroom will also make you more likely to suffer from cystitis. Regardless of the origin of this cystitis - bacterial, viral or chemical - its symptoms can be very annoying. Do you want to know why? Basically because it increases the feeling of needing to urinate (even if you don't let out a drop) and, when you go to the bathroom, the stinging becomes unbearable.

The bad news is that half of women who suffer an infection once are at risk of suffering another in less than 6 months, and up to 77% of them in less than a year, which is known as recurrent cystitis, according to data from Gadaca Salud.

In fact, your medical team has highlighted some tips that seem key to avoiding suffering from this infection and how to proceed if you notice its symptoms.

•Drink water frequently: Staying hydrated and going to the bathroom 6 to 8 times a day will help eliminate bacteria that may have reached the bladder before they cause damage.

•Avoid having a wet swimsuit: Carrying a spare swimsuit to keep the intimate area dry can prevent infection. Furthermore, hygiene is an essential factor for prevention.

• If it is recurrent, review your diet: If you are one of those who suffer from recurrent cystitis, you should increase the consumption of vegetables and fruits with high water and fiber content to avoid constipation and incorporate probiotics.

•Make love, but not cystitis: High sexual activity can cause the appearance of an infection, but don't cut yourself, the most effective remedy to avoid it is to pee after having sex.

If, despite taking these precautions, you suffer an infection and feel pelvic pain or blood appears in your urine (when it turns reddish), you should consult your doctor.

And if you are pregnant, keep in mind that cystitis tends to be more common. In fact, 8 percent suffer from a urinary tract infection during pregnancy. What's more, in women who have suffered from cystitis before, there is a greater chance that it will occur during pregnancy. Of course, the incidence is higher in the first four months of pregnancy due to the increase in the hormone progesterone, which relaxes the urinary tract, making evacuation difficult.
