Did you know that the word co-sleeping does not exist? It is a term adapted from the English term co-sleeping. Today we are not going to value the linguistic part of the word co-sleeping or remind you of the opinion of experts against co-sleeping because they consider co-sleeping an unsafe practice (tips for co-sleeping safely) or remind you of pediatricians like Carlos Gónzalez in favor of co-sleeping. The key is that if you decide to sleep with the baby in the same bed, both dad and mom must agree with this decision and both be responsible for the baby's presence and safety.
Practicing co-sleeping is not only sleeping with your children in the same bed, but there are different ways to do it that do not necessarily have to involve sharing the bed. Here we show you 5 ways to sleep with your baby:
Recommendations for co-sleeping
In the first weeks of a baby's life, it is preferable for the little one to sleep between the wall, the sidecar crib or a safe barrier and the mother, rather than between the father and the mother. Dads lack the beginning of that sixth sense that allows mothers to sleep peacefully knowing that their baby is there. After a while, parents become more sensitive to their presence and then they can sleep between them.
The Breastfeeding Committee and the Working Group for the Study of Sudden Infant Death of the Spanish Pediatric Association have prepared a consensus document of recommendations on co-sleeping, breastfeeding and sudden infant death syndrome and one of their basic recommendations is to choose to place the crib next to the bed or use a "sidecar" crib (independent surface attached to the parents' bed), which facilitates breastfeeding and does not interfere with the frequency of breastfeeding.
Whatever your sleeping pattern, it is your choice to choose the best way to rest. Happy dreams!
